Bandleader, bassist, Bobby Valentin was a mainstay for the Fania All Stars and traveled the world with them for several years. Bobby was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he learned to play guitar. He also attended the Quinton Academy of Music where he learned to play trumpet. He moved to New York in 1956 and met Joe Quijano who had him play with his band. Later, he played with the orchestras of Willie Rosario and Tito Rodriguez.

He is an accomplished arranger who wrote for Charlie Palmieri and Ray Barretto. Finally in 1965 he formed his own band and signed with Fania Records. He selected his vocalists carefully and was responsible for introducing Marcelino Rosales, Marvin Santiago, Johnny Vazquez, Carlos “Cano” Estremera, Luisito Carrion, Marima and Juan Jose Hernandez. He has also used vocalists Nestor Sanchez, Luigi Texidor, Ray De La Paz and Frankie Hernandez for recordings.

This 1969 release, Se La Comio, features the voices of Marvin Santiago and Frankie Hernandez. The album swings, as is the usual case with Bobby Valentin recordings. Give it a listen and enjoy!
