In 1955, Tico Records released their first LP. And what an album it is! Containing mega-hits like RAN KAN KAN, MAMBO INN and MAMBO WITH ME, it set the tone for what would become one of the most impactive record labels in the history of Latin music.
George Goldner, a young New York Mambo-nick was a key promoter in the late 40’s. He ascended to the top of his game by renting halls and featuring the biggest names in Latin music. Ultimately, he formed Tico and recorded the illustrious bandleaders he represented, Puente, Machito, and Tito Rodriguez, thus filling the airwaves with the exciting music New Yorkers swung to.
What distinguishes this album from other Puente favorites is that there are no vocals. So we are treated to fabulous innovative Puente arrangements and solos by members of his fabulous orchestra. At the same time, Tito shows off his skills as a vibraharpist on Ran Kan Kan, Mambolino, and Que Lindo Es El Mambo.
